Hello. My name is Taner Güven.
I would like to talk a bit about what I have been doing during these days of pandemic.
When the pandemic arrived in Turkey the first time, some restrictions and quarantine days started for us. We started to stay home. As artists, we are used to stay home or at the workroom. So it hasn’t affected us substantially in this regard.
But still it has some effects. Everybody was home so there was an increase in the internet use. Meanwhile, we have created chat groups with friends to keep in touch with them.
We used those groups to communicate as well as to spend the evening together as if we were in a bar or pub chatting via video conference.
Furthermore, we have also done some other things in terms of art activity.
In Turkey, there has been an activity of applauding healthcare professionals at 9:00 pm on the balcony. However, a group of my friends and I thought we should do something else.
We created a team. We started drawing portraits of healthcare professionals and shared them on a page that was dedicated for the medical staff on social media.
The portraits were also sent to the social media accounts of individual doctors. We performed that activity to thank all healthcare workers. Apart from that, we have our own work going on regardless of the pandemic. As you see behind, there is a painting I have been working on.
I guess there is not much left to say for me. There is not a big change on my side. I’m having my daily life as before. However, until a while ago we were not allowed to go out, but now that restriction has also been cancelled. This also has turned normal for me.

TANER GÃœVEN (1960)
1989 Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi G.S.F. Resim Bölümü’nden mezun oldu. Birçok dernek
ve vakıfta yöneticilik yaptı. Küratör olarak sergiler düzenledi. Yurtiçi ve yurtdışın
da birçok sergiler açtı. Performanslar yaptı.
Halen kendi atölyesin de çalışmalarını sürdürmektedir.

TANER GÃœVEN (1960)
Born in the year 1960.
1989 Graduated from Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts Painting Department.
1989 -1994 Worked as a teacher at Ä°stasyon Art House.
1999 -2000 Worked as a tutor for children in Tale House Tent in Halıdere upon the earthquake of Gölcük.
2000 -2003 Worked as a director at TAV (Social Researches Culture and Art Foundation). He still carries
his works at Alumni Association of Mimar Sinan University, Karşı Sanat Works, 78s’ Foundation councils
and at his workshop in Ä°stanbul.
